The Power of a Seed

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to bring a message to the congregation of Deer Valley Worship Center focused on the power of a seed.  Throughout the Bible we see the Lord use many examples of natural law that bring to life spiritual principles.  The seed is one such example.

We see that a seed has the potential within it to become what God has engineered that seed to become.  If it is an orange tree seed, it has the DNA of an orange tree.  If it is a sycamore tree, it has the DNA of a sycamore tree.  The seed already has within it the framework of its potential and purpose.

The Word of God is a seed that is sown to produce God’s purpose.  Even when one accepts God’s forgiveness through Christ it is because of the power of the seed of the Word of God.  And within the seed of the Word is the potential for every believer to walk in newness of life and be transformed into the image of Christ.

But there is a process.  Go ahead and say that with me…. Process.  This is where the real challenge begins.  We may believe the Bible to be true, believe that Jesus died for our sins, and believe that He has good things in store for us, but are we committed to the process.  No, our microwaves don’t work in this situation and there aren’t any drive through breakthroughs in the kingdom of God.

In fact, Jesus says in John 12:24,“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

Each of us has an outer covering of self will and thinking that must “die” if the life of Christ is to fully reign in our lives.  This is where the spiritual rubber of your resolve to serve Christ and experience His plan for your life meets the road.  Breaking through into the life God intended for you does not come without the price of laying one’s life down for the cause.  Casual Christianity is exactly that – casual.  And it does not pierce the outer shell of resistance.

But here is the hope and the payoff – if it dies!!, it produces much grain.  Fruitfulness, change, healing, restoration, abundance, transformation, peace, and joy are waiting to burst forth from your heart spilling over into your emotions and daily life.  Each blessing will find greater place in your life when the “outer shell dies”.  Sooner or later your faith and experience will pierce through the ground as it reaches for the Sonlight.

So if you are a Christian, and don’t seem to be growing or seeing the answer coming in your life.  Hold on, submit to God’s process, embrace truth in every area of your life and look out because what God has spoken will come to pass.  The DNA of who you were created to be is inside your heart and it will produce what He intended.  Wholeness, joy, peace and the fulfillment of  purpose are yours for the taking.  It’s all in the power of the seed.
